Community

Early learning changes everything. Help us change lives from the beginning.

Child Care Action Council supports caregivers, parents and communities in creating quality early learning opportunities for young children. We serve over 34,000 families and 950 providers in six counties.

Our work impacts thousands, and we need your help to continue to do more. Just last year we instilled a love for reading in over 1,200 children, provided 1,400 hours of crisis care, offered 550 days of free child care to homeless children, helped over 2,200 families find child care, helped 3,400 providers improve the quality of care they provide, taught 670 hours of early learning training, ensured 300 military families had access to care, increased 5,000 children’s math skills, provided 2,300 families with safety equipment and training, and advocated on state and federal levels for children related issues. Since opening our doors in 1987, the Child Care Action Council has excelled at its mission to promote and nurture early learning communities where families and children thrive through multiple programs and services that all benefit young children.

Our Programs and Services

Raising A Reader
Nearly half of all U.S. children entering kindergarten lack the early reading skills needed for success in school. We’re working to change that so all children will enter kindergarten in love with the printed page and ready to learn to read. Find out more >>

Safe Kids
Accidental injuries are the number one cause of death in children 14 and under. Prevention can eliminate 90 percent of these, so we are coming together with local agencies, government, businesses and volunteers to make car seats, helmets, life jackets and other safety equipment and information readily available. Margie's Crisis Nursery
When facing a crisis, you sometimes need a break from caring for young children. When family and friends aren't available, Margie's Crisis Nursery will be there. We believe all children deserve safe, loving care and that asking for help is a sign of strength. Contact Margie's >>

BlockFest
In partnership with Thurston Early Childhood Coalition, we help young children learn math and science through block play. You can bring BlockFest to your community, organization or business so the young children in your life can play with blocks of all sizes, shapes, colors and materials. Learn more >>

Parent Education
Learning should be fun, so we offer cooperative play experience for friends, families and caregivers. Whenever we have fun activities going on, we’ll include them on our calendar and our e-newsletter. Stay informed and sign up now >>

Child Care Resource and Referral
We help providers and parents alike. We make sure those in need of child care find it, and that caregivers who have open spots find children to care for. It’s a win-win for everyone. So whether you’re a provider or a parent, we can help. Find child care >>

Child Care Professional Development Academy
Just like in any career or business, employees and business owners need to stay up to date on new developments, training and certifications in their field. We offer classes, workshops and conferences for providers to obtain STARS credit, CDA certification, and overall expertise in their field. Come to us, or we can come to you with an in-service training for your staff. Find a class or register >>

Consultation Services
Everyone needs a little help or different perspective at some point. When providers signed up for Early Achievers do, we’re here to offer consultations on many topics including child guidance, circle time, parent communication, working with children’s special needs, lesson planning, curriculum, administration and more. Contact Connie Dougherty, connie@ccacwa.org, for more information.

Early Learning Coalitions
CCAC is actively involved in Early Learning Coalitions in six counties. Each county formed a group of stakeholders and together determined the goals and activities necessary to meet the early learning needs of their communities. We provide leadership, infrastructure and resources to the locally driven coalitions. CCAC is also involved in two regional coalitions, Olympic-Kitsap Peninsula's Early Learning Coalition and Visions for Early Learning Coalition.
