Station 13: Getting Along

LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR FEELINGS!

Everyone has feelings. Sometimes they can be BIG and sometimes they can be small. It’s good to be able to talk out your feelings, particularly if you feel someone’s actions have made you feel a certain way.

It’s a great skill to be see what different feelings might look like on someone’s face. Try this activity where you guess how someone is feeling by the look they make with their face.

Then, use your whole body to show feelings with this activity!

I AM SO MAD!

A good activity if you are mad is to knead and pound dough – which is part of the recipe. Mad Cookies are a great way to funnel the mads from your body! And the time together in the kitchen could be a great place to talk about these feelings.

I AM SO STRESSED OUT!

Feeling anxious and stressed cannot be avoided. Learning to manage these tough feelings can be taught using special breathing. Belly Breathing is a great exercise to do when you need to relax.

THANK YOU!

When you thank someone, you are saying you appreciate them. You can appreciate lots of things someone else does for you. It could be a kind word they said, a thoughtful thing they did, or just them being themselves around you. There are many ways to show someone you appreciate them. Saying “thanks” usually is enough. But if you would like to show appreciation in another way, check out these two activities:

You can make Appreciation Cards to give to those around you. They can be simple or very elaborate. But no matter what, the person who gets the card will feel special because you acknowledged them.

You can also make a Kindness Tree that shows all the ways you or someone else has been kind. Put this somewhere where you can be reminded of all the kindness around you.

WORKING TOGETHER TO GET ALONG

We can’t always agree with each other. But we can try to see how the other person is feeling. The Peace Path stencil is a great tool to talk through your thoughts and feelings with another person. You can even practice on it – as a parent to work through a problem with you to see how you can listen and hear each other!
