Melted Snowman Activity

Explore shapes and squeeze glue while creating a melting snowman. This activity is perfect to pair with the changing seasons as the winter snow begins to melt and we welcome spring weather. This activity supports cognitive development by not only learning about shapes and colors but also talking about their memories of snow days and discovering cause and effect of snow melting under the warm sun.

Material needs:
Glue
Precut shapes in construction paper with scissors
    – white squares for snow
    – brown long rectangles for sticks
    – range triangles for the carrot
    -black circles for the eyes

The activity:
Tell the child that their picture would look like a melted snowman and then describe the materials that they can use. Describe the color and shapes and how each represented the snow, sticks, carrot noses and pebble eyes. Allow kids to work on their projects without a limit on the amount of shapes and glue they use. Talk to your child about what happens when a snowman melted. Encourage them to talk about what they see when their own snowman melted or let them imagine what will happen when the snowman does melt. This activity supports cognitive development further by not only learning about shapes and color but also talking about their memories of snow days and discovering cause and effect of snow melting under the warm sun.
