Kids Service Project: Cards of Kindness
On November 17, 2018, we held our first Caring Kids family volunteer project: Cards of Kindness, sending holiday wishes and thanks to service members deployed abroad. In addition to stuffing mailboxes full of cards, kids learned a little bit about the people we were making cards and the importance of their actions. They also enjoyed building with big foam blocks, story time, and lunch provided by Safeway (thank you Hawks Prairie Safeway!!). This month we partnered with the Red Cross to make the volunteer project possible!
During the event, we read “My Big Brother” by Miriam Cohen, a book that beautifully captures the feelings of a child who has a loved one who is far away. We will also demonstrated the “See – Show – Say” teaching strategy (thank you to Teaching Strategies for Early Childhood Education for the video) that will help develop your child’s language skills.
